“The majority of blog posts are published between 9:00am – 5:00pm CT. What does that mean? That means that content is being published by people during regular business hours, simply put. But what does it REALLY mean? It means that content is being published when everyone with a job is at work – not when they can be reading and sharing it through social media.” -Victor Musch
Does anyone else ever feel like they have a 24 hour work schedule? I know that there are a ton of folks out there going through a similar experience as me. This website is my baby, and being such, is always on my mind in one way or another. There really is no leaving the office.
I’m starting to think I should write a 24 hour work schedule blog in and of itself just to make light of the nature of creating something that requires so much attention in it’s infancy – a lot like a baby does. And we all love our babies! I have a real baby too – my son Gavin, and he’s 2 years old. He’s always on my mind in one way or another too.
What I’m starting to look for are ways to automate some of my work. It’s not easy but I have found a few ways that will surely help you reduce your stress and increase your target audience.
Scheduled Blog Publishing for WordPress Content
Here’s why I’m automating my blog publishing now. It’s a really super secret reason that I’m sharing with you. Not many people do the kind of research I do. Here’s what I found out.
The majority of blog posts are published between 9:00am – 5:00pm CT. What does that mean? That means that content is being published by people during regular business hours, simply put. But what does it REALLY mean? It means that content is being published when everyone with a job is at work – not when they can be reading and sharing it through social media.
Also, the majority of social shares are happening between 9:00pm – 11:00pm CT. What does that mean? You are getting my drift by now so naturally, let me just cut to the chase. You can have a scheduled blog published at this time.
You can set it up to trigger your automated social media just as easy as doing your social media yourself, but that’s an entirely different subject for a different post. Take advantage of the time when your content will be seen as fresh and new so it will get shared on social media. Also, I know from experience that Google, Bing and Yahoo can index your content in less than 30 minutes. Get that post out there!
Another awesome time that has virtually no competition is between 3:00am-7:00am. Remember, the European business day starts around then. Also, early risers are not at work yet. They are looking for content and getting yesterday’s news. Guess who comes up first? You and your scheduled blog published at that time, even though you are probably still in bed sleeping.
So while you and everyone else sleeps, your blog can be getting read and shared because of the timing of your publishing.
How Can I Produce Enough Content?
Over 45% of content marketers say their biggest challenge is producing enough content. I know that sometimes the creative energies are difficult to church up. Sometimes the trending topics are just not in my relative niche. Sometimes my responsibilities as Internet Manager of Mark’s real estate company takes up a huge chunk of my time. Sometimes I can make up even more excuses.
But that’s all they are. Excuses. Creating content is as easy as putting your fingers to the keyboard. What are you going through? What are you learning? Talk about it!
If you have a post scheduled for 4:00am – 6:00am and another one scheduled for 9:00pm that’s perfect. Remember, that’s only about two hours of work a day. Cut out distractions if you have to and prepare your work beforehand so that when the time comes, no matter what you are doing or where you are, your blog post will be published and any social media tools you use will follow suit and spread your content around.
How Can I Schedule My Blog To Be Published at a Specific Time?
To those of you who aren’t familiar with WordPress enough to get right to this, here’s a short tutorial on how it can be done.
- Click on ‘Posts’ in the Sidebar Menu.
- In the upper left click ‘Add New’.
- Before you enter your title and content, look at your Publish widget to the right. Click ‘Edit’ next to Publish Immediately.
- A drop down menu gives you the place to put the date and time. Put it in and click ‘Ok’.
- Notice your ‘Publish’ button now says ‘Schedule’. When you are all finished, click ‘Schedule’.
Keep in mind the kind of message that you think your target audience would be appreciative of at any given time. What would be most appealing in the morning? In the evening? What is going to set you apart from the rest of the stuff out there. This is by no means and end all be all to blogging but it’s a great idea. This doesn’t mean you can’t blog during regular business hours. That’s just when there’s the most competition!
